General Manager
About the Role
The General Manager provides direction and support to the operations, facility, business, and program facets of The Salvation Army Kroc Center. This individual is responsible for ensuring the Kroc Center is used to its full capacity, aligned with the mission of The Salvation Army, and financially sound. The General Manager oversees the day-to-day operation and management of the Kroc Center under the direction of the Kroc Officers.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate annual operating budgets, ensuring goals and objectives are met.
- Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and maintenance of fiscally sound programs that operate within budgetary requirements.
- Oversee and direct program directors, operational managers, and business managers regarding budgeting, purchasing, staffing, human resource requirements, and business development.
- Ensure effective staff scheduling that provides appropriate service and coverage levels.
- Develop and manage capital improvement plans and projects in conjunction with Kroc Officers, Divisional Headquarters, and Territorial Headquarters.
- Ensure all purchasing, supply, and equipment requirements are met.
- Implement and enforce facility safety, child safety, and maintenance policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to develop, evaluate, and maintain staff policies, procedures, and the operations manual in accordance with Salvation Army directives and regulations.
- Conduct regular reviews of Kroc Standards to maintain a Gold Level Kroc Center rating.
- Evaluate and direct venue/business operations to ensure compliance with Salvation Army policy and the Kroc Center mission while optimizing financial and service performance.
- Establish methods for quality control to evaluate staff performance and ensure consistent high-quality guest service.
- Perform departmental evaluations in a timely manner.
- Develop and maintain new job descriptions for all reporting departments.
- Provide leadership and oversight to the day-to-day operational activities throughout the Kroc Center campus.
- Work with DHQ IT and the Marketing and Communication Director to ensure the correct operation of the low-voltage systems of the Kroc Facility.
- Collaborate with the operational and management team to solve problems necessary for daily operational success.
- Process all personnel hire, change, and termination cases in cooperation with Human Resources.
- Work with staff on overall marketing, promotion, customer service, staff training, building maintenance, cleaning, safety, and risk management.
- Ensure shared facility resources are allocated properly in conjunction with the Senior Kroc Officer.
- Regularly meet with Kroc Officers, the Leadership team, and the RJKCCC Leadership Team to coordinate operational issues, set priorities, and make recommendations for repairs, remodeling, and equipment replacement.
- Attend all scheduled staff and management team meetings.
- Review all contracts with vendors, professional service agreements, and long-term space rental agreements, providing recommendations to Kroc Officers and approval channels.
- Manage the Facilities Department to meet its objectives and assignments.
- Develop operational manuals for each venue of the Center.
- Ensure the purchase of equipment and supplies complies with budgetary considerations.
- Advise on setting priorities and recommendations for repairs, remodeling, purchase of supplies, and replacement of facilities and equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Recreation Management or a related field. Non-Profit Management experience and a master’s degree are a plus.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in:
- A position as General Manager or Director of Operations and Business of a comprehensive recreational, sports, educational, or athletic facility.
- The development and administration of facility budgets of at least $3 million.
- Management of a comprehensive indoor recreation facility of at least 50,000 square feet.
- Participation in a team or leadership role in a sales-focused organization.
- A leadership style that fosters team relationships to accomplish objectives and solve problems professionally.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, priorities, and programs in a constantly changing environment.
- A communication and management style that exhibits the principles and values of The Salvation Army.
- Valid Illinois Driver’s License, insured transportation, and ability to meet The Salvation Army’s approved driving requirements.
- Ability to speak before large and small groups with poise and enthusiasm.
- Ability to work with children, parents, and staff in a leadership capacity, promoting safety and excellence.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office products, with strong Microsoft Excel skills for designing and updating spreadsheets.
- Understanding of how to supervise staff, community service workers, volunteers, and participants of varying education levels and diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Willingness to promote the mission of The Salvation Army.

$116,208 - $145,259
