About the Role
You will have overall responsibility for the branch location, including maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction, meeting sales and profit targets, and fostering effective communication between all departments.
Responsibilities
- Hire and train a new and used sales force to meet branch sales and profit goals.
- Handle all sales activities for designated “House” accounts.
- Market trucks aggressively throughout the branch’s assigned territory.
- Evaluate truck sales departments’ performance against target goals and take corrective action as needed.
- Analyze the truck market and develop or revise sales and marketing plans to capitalize on current conditions.
- Establish and foster relationships with key outside businesses, including PACCAR, financial institutions, and vendors.
- Assign and manage truck sales territories in alignment with company goals and policies.
- Address personnel issues for the Truck Sales Department, including performance appraisals, improvement plans, and disciplinary actions.
- Facilitate customer relations by addressing concerns and mediating solutions.
- Schedule and facilitate weekly meetings with new and used truck department managers and staff.
- Coordinate with the factory regarding new truck orders and inform sales staff and customers as appropriate.
- Review and approve all new truck sales deals, authorize credits and chargebacks, and ensure profitability of F&I contracts.
- Follow up and collect vendor credits and allowances in a timely manner.
- Train and appraise sales staff to ensure productivity and adherence to company goals.
- Serve as Team Leader for the Branch Operating Team with final authority on all operating decisions.
- Provide management information to the Executive Committee, including sales forecasts and market trends.
- Establish financial and operating objectives for new and used truck sales in the branch.
- Prepare, review, and adjust operating and capital budgets for the Branch Truck Sales department.
- Interview and hire new and used sales staff and recommend department managers to the Executive Committee.
Requirements
- Two or four-year technical degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the heavy-duty transportation industry, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
- Management skills, including strategic plan development, decision-making, and program implementation.
- Supervisory skills, including coaching, training, and motivating subordinates to meet department goals.
- Extensive product knowledge to assist customers and sales staff with purchase decisions.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to establish and meet standards and deadlines for self and others.
- Basic computer skills.
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Ability to work in a dealership environment, including 8–12-hour workdays with extended hours as needed, frequent sitting, walking, and standing.
- Occasional lifting, stooping, bending, pushing, or pulling of up to 50 lbs.
