About the role
The General Manager is responsible for leading overall business operations and driving sales growth. This dual-role leader will oversee sales strategy, key account relationships, operational efficiency, and financial performance. The ideal candidate is a proven sales leader with a background in electrical engineering and familiarity with profit and loss (P&L).
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans to meet revenue targets and grow market share.
- Identify and cultivate new business opportunities while expanding relationships with existing clients.
- Collaborate with marketing and technical teams to align messaging and solution development with customer needs.
- Oversee pricing strategies, proposals, contract negotiations, and closing of high-value deals.
- Actively contribute to the quoting process and provide final approval on major opportunities to ensure alignment with margin goals and customer expectations.
- Lead day-to-day operations of the business to ensure efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate with design, engineering, production, and project management teams to meet client deadlines and technical requirements.
- Establish and track KPIs for operational excellence, including lead times, quality, and resource utilization.
- Leverage engineering expertise to support complex customer projects, provide technical sales support, and review designs for feasibility and compliance.
- Collaborate with the engineering and production teams to ensure alignment between sales commitments and manufacturing capabilities.
- Monitor company’s P&L, develop budgets, forecasts, and performance metrics to drive profitability.
- Analyze financial and operational data to identify opportunities for improvement and growth.
- Report on business performance to executive leadership, providing strategic input and actionable recommendations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Minimum 7–10 years of combined experience in technical sales and operations leadership roles.
- Demonstrated success in leading a sales team and growing revenue through strategic initiatives.
- P&L experience with a track record of improving margins and operational efficiency.
- Strong communication, leadership, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to thrive in a hands-on, fast-paced, customer-focused environment.
- Ability to travel to customer locations, tradeshows, or vendor meetings (up to 15–20%).
Success Measures
- Achievement of revenue, gross margin, EBITDA, and operating income targets.
- Growth in equipment sales, service revenue, parts sales, and recurring maintenance agreements.
- Customer retention, satisfaction, and Net Promoter Score (NPS) improvements.
- Technician utilization, service response times, and operational efficiency metrics.
- Employee engagement, leadership development, and talent retention.
- Safety performance and regulatory compliance.
- Successful execution of strategic growth initiatives and continuous improvement programs.
