GENERAL MANAGER

About the Role

Ensures the profitability of the dealership by overseeing the various departments which include variable operations (sales & financing), fixed operations (service & parts), and the business office (accounting & administration). Duties include planning, motivating, and coordinating the dealership’s management through leadership and solid business practices.

Responsibilities

• Hire all management positions, complete performance evaluations regularly, and develop short and long-term goals for each department manager (includes administrative, sales, parts, collision, and service departments).
• Plan and develop short and long-term goals and objectives annually, and submit time projections to corporate management for approval.
• Effectively communicate with the comptroller/office manager on a weekly basis to review departmental forecasts and ensure consistency with annual projections.
• Pay close attention to daily operations, recommend and create improved courses of action where necessary.
• Explain the policies and procedures of the dealership to all employees and follow up to ensure these issues are understood and followed.
• Provide dealership management with reports on the financial condition of the dealership.
• Oversee the monthly financial statement to ensure it is complete, accurate, and submitted on time to the management/dealership owners.
• Coordinate with the business/administrative office to ensure that records and analyses are correctly maintained.
• Create and maintain a good working relationship with lending institutions and manufacturer personnel.
• Coordinate regular meetings with the managers of each department to ensure their profitability and efficiency.
• Work with sales and finance management to develop dealership sales goals and business plans.
• Maintain an enthusiastic attitude to build positive employee attitudes and morale.
• Create cost-effective advertising programs and merchandising strategies for the dealership.
• Focus on any customer complaints that department managers are unable to rectify and take the necessary steps to resolve these complaints.

Requirements

• Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent (required).
• College degree in business administration (preferred).
• Two or more years of dealership sales experience.
• Five or more years in a supervisory position.
• Experience in other dealership departments is a plus.
• Ability to manage a large, diverse staff.
• Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations affecting dealership operations, including hazardous waste disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know regulations, and provide necessary training on these regulations and ethical practices.
• Must be able to work evenings and weekends.
• All applicants must be able to pass pre-employment testing, including background checks, drug test, credit report, and possess a valid Texas driver's license.
