About the role

The Heibar Indiana General Manager (GM) will lead the continued development and evolution of Heibar’s facility in Morristown, Indiana. This site will partner heavily with other Heibar locations to ensure best practices are represented while building a strong process-based culture of customer focus and problem-solving. The GM will oversee all activities at the site, working alongside department managers to coordinate efforts toward organizational goals. Key deliverables include safety, quality, labor cost, bill of material as a percentage of revenue, on-time delivery, inventory, productivity, ROA, customer experience (NPS), employee engagement, and driving Clayton’s culture and team member experience.

The GM will create and enhance scalable, best-in-class systems and processes and develop a strong, collaborative partnership with the builder-partner, Arbor Homes. This role is intended as a launching pad for future multi-site leadership opportunities.

Location: Morristown, Indiana, just southeast of Indianapolis
Travel Required: Estimated at <20%

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce and lead through conflict constructively.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with Arbor partners.
  • Align systems and processes for efficiencies and scalable solutions.
  • Establish and enforce quality control standards to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Set challenging yet realistic work goals aligned with Heibar KPIs and corporate initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for business expansion and strategic growth.
  • Seek feedback for personal and professional growth.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals and groups, tailoring messages to the audience.
  • Apply critical and analytical thinking to solve problems using logic, reasoning, and analysis.
  • Manage information flow from various sources to assess and address issues holistically.
  • Ensure privacy and confidentiality of company, customer, and co-worker information.
  • Maintain a healthful and safe environment, reporting violations as needed.
  • Lead change, embrace new approaches, and discard outdated methods while guiding the team through transitions.
  • Provide thorough, accurate, and timely responses to customer and partner inquiries.
  • Apply critical-thinking skills to generate, evaluate, and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrate interest in learning about new tools and technologies, seeking best practices.
  • Support sustainable practices that meet current needs while considering future generations.
  • Develop budgets, forecasts, and resource allocation plans with a working knowledge of P&L, headcount management, and succession planning.
  • Manage key performance indicators, including dashboard reporting of critical measures.
  • Oversee employment practices requiring risk management intervention (e.g., EEOC charges, PAGA claims, hotline complaints).
  • Translate strategic plans into actionable programs supporting Clayton’s mission, vision, and values.

Requirements

  • Transparency and honesty, with the ability to communicate difficult messages accurately.
  • Strong business acumen and broad understanding of management practices, principles, and best practices.
  • Proven success in a manufacturing environment with growth, scale, and operational complexity.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership acumen, particularly with cross-functional and matrixed teams, and experience developing teams to meet KPIs.
  • Demonstrated project and capital project management completed on-time, within budget, and scope.
  • Maintain composure and effectiveness in stressful situations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; ERP experience required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, operations, supply chain, or a relevant technical field from an accredited institution.
  • MBA from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Ten plus (10+) years of experience in increasingly responsible leadership roles in a multi-location manufacturing environment, with 5+ years in senior management desired.
  • Demonstrated success in driving safety, quality, consistent performance, and productivity.
  • Experience leading the design, development, and implementation of improved manufacturing processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of P&L management, manufacturing processes, quality control, and supply chain management.
  • Strong intellect combined with practical, common-sense problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated high performance with year-over-year improvement in key measurables.
  • Experience leading high-performance teams to drive engagement and performance.
