About the Role

We are seeking a talented General Manager to oversee all operations of a branch office. In this role, you will manage staff, foster a positive work environment, and ensure customer satisfaction while driving business expansion through strategic initiatives that increase productivity and achieve sales targets.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute a strategic business development plan for the region.
  • Develop strategies to optimize project opportunities and meet growth objectives.
  • Build and maintain client relationships, initiate new client contacts, and manage business development efforts for both existing and new clients.
  • Develop proposal and budgeting strategies in collaboration with estimating and operations teams.
  • Partner with department managers to set and achieve divisional goals.
  • Oversee all facets of project management, including estimating, pre-construction, scheduling, safety, and field/job staffing performance.
  • Direct the division’s financial operations, including forecasting, budgeting, billing, payables, receivables, purchasing, disbursements, and financial analysis.
  • Assume total P&L responsibility and control.
  • Assist with legal, insurance, and safety issues affecting branch operations.
  • Actively communicate with company management and participate in company-wide initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain a personal network within industry and trade groups (e.g., BOMA, IFMA, BSCAI, IWCA, ICRI, SWR, CAI, CSI).
  • Promote a highly responsive, safety-focused, and service-driven culture through effective communication with all regional staff.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Recruit, interview, hire, and train new staff.
  • Oversee daily workflow of the department.
  • Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations.
  • Handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of construction or related industry experience.
  • Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management, or a relevant discipline; MBA or additional training preferred.
  • Possess a TX contractor’s license or be willing to pursue licensure within the first 6 months of employment.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States.

Skills

  • Well-developed sales and business development skills with the ability to close new business and grow existing client relationships.
  • Experience managing an outside workforce of approximately 100 and an internal support staff of about 30.
  • Proven experience managing construction services, including suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Strong financial skills, including forecasting, budgeting, and analyzing financial statements.
  • Proficiency with construction accounting systems and job cost reports.
  • Effective oral, written, and presentation skills; ability to lead meetings at all levels.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills to develop direct reports and promote from within.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple, competing priorities.
  • Analytical orientation toward market trends and competitive positioning.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, job cost/estimating software).
  • Enthusiastic, performance-driven leadership with the ability to translate company vision into operational plans and goals.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • Travel up to 25% of the time.
