General Maintenance Worker

Fortis Native Group is seeking a full-time General Maintenance Worker for our Southern California contract supporting Naval Base San Diego.

About the role

The General Maintenance Worker performs preventive and corrective maintenance, repairs, and work orders on facility buildings, including HVAC equipment, roll-up doors, fire protection systems, generators, pumps, motors, lighting, and related equipment. This position supports daily facility operations by responding to service calls, completing scheduled maintenance, maintaining work order documentation, and ensuring all work is performed safely in accordance with company policies and contract requirements.

Responsibilities

• Performs repairs, preventive, and corrective maintenance on HVAC systems, roll-up door systems, fire protection, generators, and equipment including pumps, blowers, and motors.
• Maintains pumps, electrical controls, related components, facilities, and related equipment, as well as interior and exterior lighting.
• Performs work orders on facility buildings as required.
• Makes equipment adjustments.
• Maintains computerized and manual records and prepares reports pertaining to the operation of daily work orders; makes changes as required to meet operating requirements.
• Identifies, schedules, and coordinates work to support the facility(s) as needed.
• Follows company’s Environmental, Health, and Safety Policies; wears and works in proper personal protective equipment.
• Assists with operational tasks in conjunction with operations or as directed by supervisor.
• Performs other related functions assigned as they become apparent or as management assigns.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Five years’ experience in the maintenance field.
• Valid, active state driver’s license.
• Must pass drug screening and background checks.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of mechanical operations, maintenance, and repair of equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical systems related to equipment in assigned work area.
• Knowledge of proper operation of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations (OSHA 10).
• Effectively and safely operates hand tools, pneumatic tools, air compressors, and other small equipment related to the maintenance trades.
• Hands-on experience in light-duty electrical power systems (240 V/single and three-phase) and instrumentation calibration.
• Additional trade-specific courses preferred.

Work Environment

• May be required to work indoors or outdoors during seasonal heat, cold, or other adverse weather conditions.
• May be regularly exposed to fumes, dust, and odors.
• Some high noise levels from operations of equipment.
• Must be physically able to complete necessary tasks related to maintenance.
• May have to work after normal work hours for on-call assignments.
