Responsibilities
- Perform routine and emergency maintenance and repairs on hospital buildings, equipment, and utility systems.
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify and address maintenance needs proactively.
- Maintain and care for the hospital grounds, including landscaping and exterior upkeep as assigned.
- Operate and troubleshoot various facility utility systems effectively.
- Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and system checks accurately.
- Identify and communicate equipment and parts needs to the Facilities Department Manager.
- Evaluate existing and proposed equipment, providing informed recommendations for improvements and replacements.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards related to facility maintenance.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and hospital staff.
- Avoidance of other tasks as assigned by the Facilities Department Manager or Lead to support departmental operations.
- Absolutely available for evening and weekend on-call duties on a rotating basis to address urgent maintenance needs.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or GED.
- Training in plant maintenance.
- Minimum of 1 years of progressive experience in facilities maintenance, with a strong emphasis on healthcare or critical environment settings.
- Proven experience with complex troubleshooting and repair of building systems.
- Strong understanding of facility systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and general building mechanics.
- Proficiency in the safe and effective use of applicable hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and interpret equipment maintenance manuals, blueprints, and diagrams.
- Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple tasks efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude.
- Must be able to read, write, and perform basic mathematical functions.
- Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse population.
- Bilingual skills, particularly in English and Spanish (preferred).
Physical Requirements
- Sufficient auditory ability to detect and respond to various sounds, including patient alarms and verbal communication.
- Clear and effective communication is essential, as is the ability to interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Visual acuity is necessary for observing patient conditions, reading documentation and monitors, and distinguishing colors for clinical purposes, such as identifying medications or safety indicators.
- Tactile perception is also important for assessing physical characteristics such as temperature, size, shape, or texture during patient care.
- Motor coordination is required for reaching, grasping, handling, and performing fine motor tasks necessary for the use of medical equipment and procedures.
- The position requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds independently and involves frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients weighing up to 25 pounds.
- There may also be occasional lifting or transferring of individuals weighing over 100 pounds, with the expectation that appropriate lifting techniques, mechanical aids, or team assistance will be used to ensure safety.
