Under the supervision of the On Site Shift Supervisor, the General Maintenance Worker/Helper performs work in maintenance, repair, and operation of complex buildings equipment and systems such as those handled by a stationary engineer, air conditioning equipment mechanic, maintenance electrician, and/or maintenance plumber/pipe fitter.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing of equipment.
  • Maintain and ensure the safe condition and operation of heating and plumbing equipment.
  • Under direct supervision, perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks for buildings and grounds, including carpentry, glazier work, electrical, plumbing, masonry, painting, and grounds maintenance.
  • Report mechanical malfunctions to the appropriate supervisor for action.
  • Complete service requests and update work logs for specific site requirements.
  • Remove and respond to safety hazards.
  • Assist with special projects as directed by the site support team.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and orderly work sites.
  • Electrical: Perform basic electrical repair work for switches, outlets, plugs, cables, appliances, and lighting systems; report unsafe electrical conditions.
  • Plumbing: Identify and perform basic repairs of plumbing leaks or breaks; open clogged lines and drains; replace seals and other minor parts.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Maintain grounds in a clean, safe, and orderly manner.
  • Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.
  • Maintain parts, supplies, and equipment; advise the supervisor when supplies need to be ordered.
  • Maintain related records concerning time, labor, and materials; keep a log of tasks performed and write reports as necessary.
  • Assist with the completion of work orders; work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
  • Assist the team in responding to emergency calls.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to a Safety First Environment through personal actions.
  • Follow Corrective Action Plans to resolve quality and safety issues as they arise.

Requirements

  • Apprentice-level technician (electrical, HVAC, plumber).
  • At least two years of relevant experience within the previous four years.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen pursuant to the Government Contract.
