About the role

The General Laborer position handles various tasks throughout the Sebewaing Factory. This is a seasonal job typically running from August through May on one of four shifts, working three 40-hour weeks and one 48-hour week per month with additional overtime as required. Heavy lifting, the ability to work in confined spaces, at tall heights, and in various weather conditions may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with hands-on physical labor and operation of machinery while following all site health and safety regulations.
• Perform a wide variety of tasks, which may include assignment to a specific job after a training period.
• Cover different positions as needed at any time.
• Complete duties such as:
  • Repetitive lifting or carrying items up to 40-50 lbs.
  • Shoveling sand, pulp, beets, etc., and using wheelbarrows to transport material.
  • Performing cleaning activities with hot water and/or pressure washers.
  • Climbing stairs, ladders, and working on catwalks around equipment.
  • Driving forklifts, tractors with loaders, and skid-steers.
  • Bending, stooping, and twisting to reach areas for cleaning, shoveling, or other tasks.
  • Walking for extended periods.
  • Working in high and low temperatures throughout the factory and in various weather conditions.
  • Operating hand or power tools.
  • Handling exposure to various chemicals with proper personal protective equipment.
  • Completing good manufacturing practice paperwork with attention to detail.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Previous physical labor experience is preferred.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently or with other employees.
• Previous shift work experience is preferred.
