General Laborer / Saw & Part Cutter

About the role

The General Laborer/Saw & Part Cutter reports to the Shop Supervisor and is responsible for performing various tasks in the fabrication department, including operating saws and other cutting equipment to cut parts according to specifications. FLSA: Hourly.

Firelands Fabrication is a 72,000 SF steel fabrication shop located in New London, OH, dedicated to meeting all client’s structural and miscellaneous steel needs on time, on budget and to the highest quality standards in the industry. JHI Group comprises Janotta & Herner and Firelands Fabrication.

Responsibilities

• Operate horizontal band saws and other cutting equipment to cut metal, plastic, and other materials to specified dimensions
• Operate Hydraulic punch/shear equipment (Ironworker)
• Operate Plasma plate cutting equipment
• Grind and wire wheel steel plate
• Operate Brake Press
• Paint steel
• Load/unload trucks
• Other duties as assigned

Skills

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Proven experience in a manufacturing or similar environment
• Use of powered and powder actuated tools (grinders, magnetic drill press)
• Operating tow motor
• Occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and carry up to 25 pounds
• Frequent standing and walking, sometimes across rough or uneven surfaces
• Occasional climbing, sitting, kneeling, bending and overhead reaching
• Use of an oxy/acetylene cutting torch if required
• Operate overhead and jib cranes
• Physical stamina and ability to perform manual labor tasks

Schedule

General start and stop times vary depending on the project, but normally range from 6:00 am‑4:30 pm, normally working four (4) 10‑hour days. Occasional mandatory overtime is to be expected.
