General Laborer NF DEPARTMENT

About the Role

This role involves a variety of physical tasks related to material handling, recycling, and facility maintenance. The position requires regular attendance, punctuality, and a commitment to safety and cleanliness in the workplace.

Responsibilities

• Unloading pallets, boxes, and bundles
• Material handling / sorting – pushing, pulling, picking, lifting, carrying, and filling up hoppers, boxes, and conveyor belts
• Unpacking boxes using box cutters, separating plastics, zip ties, blister packs, and other packaging materials
• Disassembling small equipment, cutting wires, torqueing pipe fittings, removing bolts, automobile parts, and appliance parts
• Working with recycling equipment for processing metal products (e.g., metal shears, band saw, wire strippers)
• Directing traffic of yard vehicles traveling through the yard
• Performing light facility maintenance tasks such as painting, scraping, moving furniture, and equipment
• Assisting with machinery repair by selecting and using tools properly, pulling and installing parts
• Housekeeping duties including sweeping, cleaning, shoveling, and debris collection
• Moderate and periodic landscaping work
• Cleaning up work areas at the end of each shift
• Organizing materials for more effective use of space
• Disposing of various waste materials appropriately
• Inspecting areas to ensure cleanup is completed

Qualifications

• Employees in this position prior to April 2014 are presumed qualified and "grandfathered" into their positions
• Must pass a medical physical and drug test
• Must pass a background check
• Preferred: High school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable
• Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus
• Ability to communicate effectively, understand directions (written or oral), and use basic math skills as required
• Willingness to learn how to sort metal, identify colors, shapes, and weights, maintain equipment, and properly utilize PPE
