General Laborer

JOB SUMMARY

The General Laborer position is a full-time role at the Walker County Landfill. The position requires occasional overtime and emergency reporting. Essential duties include manual labor, driving, equipment maintenance, and various construction tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Pick up wind-blown debris daily
• Drive a side-by-side vehicle and pickup truck
• Assist with equipment maintenance and repairs
• Build maintenance and light construction work
• Trim or remove trees using a chainsaw
• Maintain signage and stormwater drainage systems
• Assist with snow removal and other landscaping tasks
• Follow health and safety protocols
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Basic knowledge of small engines, chainsaws, and other tools

• Ability to follow directions and work independently
• Good teamwork and collaboration skills
• Able to follow safety guidelines and instructions

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or GED
• One year experience in construction or general maintenance preferred
• Valid driver's license with proof of insurance or ability to obtain within 90 days

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Able to operate chainsaw, trimmer, and mower
• Effective communication skills
• Able to follow policies and instructions
• Knowledge of basic hand tools and construction equipment
• Able to complete small jobs without supervision

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Lift at least 50 pounds
• Stand, walk, sit, and squat for extended periods
• Bend and reach over head
• Extensive walking in diverse terrain
• Climb stairs, ladders, and step stools
• Stand for extended amounts of time
• Squat for extended periods
• Lift and carry equipment and tools for extended periods
• Bend, twist, push, and pull while working on equipment
• Work during extreme weather conditions
• Hold objects overhead

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Moderate to high noise levels
• Exposure to respiratory hazards
• Exposure to dangerous machinery and moving vehicles
• Wear personal protective equipment as needed
