Responsibilities
- Assist work crews with concrete forms and/or asphalt paving in construction and maintenance activities including quality control.
- Observe and practice safety standards and policies of the department.
- Compact and level earth to grade specifications.
- Spread asphalt and concrete.
- Load, unload, and handle steel and wood paving forms and accessories.
- Drill and install concrete dowels and tie bars.
- Assist with directing dump trucks for asphalt and concrete.
- Set string line for alignment and grade.
- Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
- Lubricate, clean, and fuel machinery, equipment, and tools.
- Meet the obligations under the Workplace Health and Safety Act and the Environmental Protection Act.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have a current valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Employee must be able to operate hand tools, edging tools, power grinders, edging saws and shovels.
- Must be able to work according to seasonal and order demand schedule.
- Must be able to safely maneuver a truck over varied terrain.

- Wears appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Exposed to hot and cold weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise levels vary while in the field.
- May require overnight stays possibly a week at a time or longer.
- This is a non-smoking campus and facility.

The noise level will vary while in the field.
This is a physically demanding job that regularly requires the employee to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
The employee must be able to pull or lift heavy boxes about ranging from 50 to 100 pounds to waist height.
When operating the push concrete saw, this does require 100 pounds 20 feet of force using arms and shoulders to move the saw through concrete product.
Will drag the air hose to approximately 50 feet to force air out of the pipe.
The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.
The employee is occasionally exposed to hot and cold weather conditions.
The noise level will vary while in the field.
This is a non-smoking campus and facility.
