General Laborer

About the role

Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a General Laborer at the Bay City facility. This seasonal position typically runs from August through May, supporting our mission of Creating Growth and Opportunity.

Responsibilities

• Assist with hands-on physical labor throughout the factory.
• Operate machinery and follow all site health and safety regulations.
• Perform a wide variety of tasks, which may include:
• Repetitive lifting or carrying items up to 40-50 lbs.
• Shoveling sand, pulp, beets, etc., and using wheelbarrows to transport material.
• Cleaning activities with hot water and/or pressure washers.
• Climbing stairs, ladders, and working on catwalks around equipment.
• Driving forklifts, tractors with loaders, and skid-steers.
• Bending, stooping, and twisting to reach areas for cleaning or shoveling.
• Extended periods of walking.
• Operating hand or power tools.
• Exposure to various chemicals with proper use of personal protective equipment.
• Completing good manufacturing practice paperwork with attention to detail.
• May be assigned to a specific job after a training period.
• May be asked to cover different positions as needed.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Previous physical labor experience is preferred.
• Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently or with others.
• Previous shift work experience is preferred.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, at tall heights, and in various weather conditions.
• Heavy lifting may be required.

Schedule

This is a seasonal position running from August through May on one of four shifts. Work schedule consists of three 40-hour weeks and one 48-hour week per month, with additional overtime as required.
