General Laborer

About the role

We are looking for a flexible, results-driven team player with the ability to manage multiple tasks, produce quality work, and consistently meet deadlines. The General Construction Laborer is responsible for cleaning and preparing construction sites for the erection of structures and buildings. Duties include unloading and loading materials, reading plans and specifications, tending machines, and assisting concrete finishers, carpenters, operating engineers, and other construction site workers.

Responsibilities

• Lift and carry materials weighing 50 to 100 pounds (occasionally more with help).
• Coordinate eye, hand, and finger movements; use hands and arms fully to reach, handle, and manipulate objects.
• Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolding; stand, walk, kneel, stoop, crouch, bend, crawl, or work for long periods at heights.
• Access multiple levels of height and depth, including confined spaces.
• Load, transport, unload, and furnish craft workers with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
• Dig, spread, and level dirt and gravel.
• Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
• Perform routine tasks such as removing forms from set concrete, filling expansion joints, measuring distances from grade stakes, driving stakes, and stretching tight line.
• Bolt, nail, align, and block up under forms.
• Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
• Level earth to fine grade specifications.
• Erect scaffolding, shoring, and braces.
• Mop, brush, or spread paints or bituminous compounds over surfaces.
• Spray materials such as water, sand, steam, vinyl, paint, or stucco.
• Apply caulking compounds; grind, sand, or polish surfaces.
• Place culvert sections in trench; assemble sections of dredge pipeline.
• Remove wallpaper.

Requirements

• 2+ years of related experience.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality standards.
• High degree of attention to detail.
• Must be able to work independently and as a team member.
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and management.
• Must pass a pre-employment screen, including drug and alcohol screen, background check, motor vehicle records check, reference check, and physical (if applicable).
• Current and valid driver’s license in the state of permanent residence (must be insurable by Jaynes automobile insurance carrier).
• Proof of current completion of a general course in Hazardous Substances - Recognition and Protection (or must attend next available class).

Work Environment

Laborers may work in cramped spaces with continuous exposure to dust, fumes, odors, dampness, noise, or outside weather conditions.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This position can require strenuous physical work, including frequent lifting and carrying of objects over 20 pounds, often combined with stooping, bending, twisting, crawling, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, and working in confined spaces.

Pay

Pay rate: $16.97 – $23.37 per hour.

Schedule

This is a full-time Union position. Travel is required.
