Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Highway Laborer: Prepares ground surfaces, removes debris, operates ground compactors, levels dirt, sets string markers, removes items within the area to be paved, sets up fencing, barricades, and safety cones, prepares manhole covers, opens and waters lines, shovels and rakes asphalt, levels out asphalt, cleans tools and equipment.
- Utility Laborer: Shovels to prepare ground trenches, digs up existing pipes and lines, attaches trench boxes and pipes to chains or guide wires, installs shoring materials, guides pipes into place, connects pipes, cuts pipe to size, sets up and operates laser level tripod and pipe lasers, assists with operating equipment such as front end loader, excavator, backhoe, skidsteer, and other construction equipment.
- Grade Laborer: Hand shovels and rakes to perform groundwork, cuts concrete with saw as needed, removes and replaces sewer/manhole/sump castings and covers, assists the Grader with grading tasks, operates equipment as needed if trained, including skidsteer and other equipment.
- Crusher Laborer: Performs machinery maintenance and repairs, unloads and shovels off conveyors and screens, changes out screens, rollers, cone liners, greases moving machine parts, operates skidsteer, moves excess materials from around the crusher machinery.
- Plant Laborer: Participates in daily THINK/TRACK meetings and weekly safety meetings, assists in plant production, ensures efficient working conditions of the plant, stockpiles materials, feeds hot plant from stockpiles, prepares plant for operation at the beginning of the season, performs shut down procedures at the end of the season, operates front end loader, skidsteer, end dump truck and other heavy equipment as needed, performs plant maintenance and repairs, including welding tasks, sets up and takes down traveling plants at different job site locations as required.
Qualifications
- Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED preferred; previous related experience in the construction field is a plus.
- Work Requirements: Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write correspondences and memos; ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions; ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
- Knowledge/Skill Requirements: Knowledge of inventory and order processing systems; uses job specific computer system for ticketing and two-way radio for communications; must have a current and valid driver's license.
- Physical Requirements: Physical demands include standing, walking, lifting, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and handling objects.
