Work Environment

Work in an outdoor environment subject to changing and seasonal weather extremes. Employee must be able to perform job duties typical of an outdoor setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks will require a variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strength (must be able to lift 50 lbs), such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, and seeing essential to performing required job functions. Eye, hand, and finger dexterity are required. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, discriminating thinking, and creative problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks involving physical labor at a construction site
  • Clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, rake material, clean up rubble, debris, and other materials
  • Mowing and weed-eating of vacant lots
  • Installing erosion control, LOD fencing, and temporary fence panels
  • Clean storm drain boxes
  • Assist with snow removal during the winter months
  • Maintain equipment daily and control the inventory in the crew work truck
  • Fill out and turn in completed Work Orders daily
  • Keep accurate time records
  • Assist in other duties as requested by the Foreman and Superintendent
  • Demonstrate communication skills and ability to stay on task and on schedule
  • Assist in snow removal and laying concrete blankets in the colder months
  • Work directly with onsite superintendents to support daily operations and project needs
  • Demonstrate clear and effective communication with team members and supervisors
  • Provide excellent customer service by maintaining a professional and helpful attitude on the job site
  • Collaborate within a team-oriented environment to ensure work is completed efficiently and safely

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test
  • Understanding and ability to operate various types of excavation equipment is helpful

Physical Activity

  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
  • Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
  • Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.
  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Feeling: Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Conveying detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers and customers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motion: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
