About the role

The White Earth Reservation Business Committee is seeking a qualified General Investigator responsible for investigating alleged or suspected criminal or civil regulatory offenses involving violations of federal, state, local, and tribal statutes and codes. The role involves determining if evidence is sufficient to recommend prosecution, setting the scope and direction of investigations, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Determine scope, timing, and direction of investigations to ensure appropriate laws and regulations are considered.
• Create and complete reports to comply with required laws.
• Prepare, submit, and follow up on crime laboratory requests.
• Coordinate with the Medical Examiner for officer-involved death investigations and attend autopsies as required.
• Contact other agencies and law enforcement jurisdictions (e.g., military, NCIC, FBI, DEA, ATF) to exchange information.
• Ensure accurate and complete information is contained in reports.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate degree in law enforcement or related field.
• Graduate of an accredited police academy recognized by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (POST).
• POST Board licensure or eligibility for licensure.
• Minimum of five (5) years of law enforcement experience.
• Physically and mentally able to use force to fulfill job duties.
• Valid Driver’s License and insurance for travel between sites.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of White Earth Tribal Council and Police Department policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, government regulations, and executive orders.
• Ability to work cooperatively within a team.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to evaluate solutions and approaches to problems.
• Active listening skills, including the ability to ask appropriate questions and understand others.
• Ability to synthesize information and identify relationships among seemingly unrelated events.
• Knowledge of White Earth Reservation demographics, culture, history, and lifestyles.
• Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement or related field.

Pay

$44.81 per hour or DOQ (Dependent on Qualifications).
