General Foreman Electrical

About the Role

This position leads and manages multiple crews of journeyman and helpers, with an average span of control between 5-15 workers. The General Foreman coordinates project work activities, monitors labor methods, and ensures productivity and safety on industrial electrical projects.

Responsibilities

• Examine project schedules and coordinate work activities through craft foremen.
• Monitor work activities and advise foremen and employees on labor methods, required equipment, and materials.
• Conduct regular meetings with project foremen to coordinate future job activities and ensure productivity.
• Advise foremen and employees of safety hazards and assist in maintaining a safe work environment.
• Coordinate with superintendents, project management, engineers, and QC inspectors to develop solutions to project problems.
• Maintain progress and cost data to assist project management in analyzing work efficiency.
• Conduct regular safety meetings addressing work areas and conditions requiring attention.
• Read blueprints and specifications to determine scope of work, including locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required.
• Identify all tools required for tasks and safety risks, including precautions to eliminate those risks.
• Lead crew in daily safe operations, manage workloads, supplies, equipment, and reporting.
• Cut, bend, and run conduit as specified on blueprints.
• Install, modify, and fabricate cable tray according to specifications.
• Pull cable through specified pathways.
• Assemble and install electrical equipment.
• Terminate wires and cables to electrical equipment such as breakers, control panels, and distribution systems.
• Test electrical components for continuity and proper voltage readings.
• Inspect electrical equipment and components to identify hazards and ensure operational condition.
• Set up and maintain temporary power systems.
• Install and maintain grounding systems for all equipment and structures.
• Keep records and report on time, cost codes, equipment, personnel records, and operational updates.
• Troubleshoot equipment and systems for electrical malfunctions.
• Follow lockout/tagout systems and all instructed safety regulations.

Requirements

• Prior working experience with Zachry Industrial, Inc.
• 6+ years of experience as an Industrial Electrician.
• 3+ years in a supervisory role.
• Ability to read blueprints and schematics proficiently.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience working on high-voltage systems.
• Ability to manage and lead crews of journeyman and helpers.
• Proficiency in installing and modifying cable tray using hand and power tools.
• Ability to bend and cut conduit using hand saws, hand tube bending equipment, and power/hydraulic devices.
• Proficiency in cable pulling methods.
• Experience using specialized electrical tools such as ohm meters, multi-meters, and terminating devices.
• Ability to terminate both high and low voltage equipment and cable/wiring.
• Mechanical and electrical knowledge of components related to new construction plants.
• Ability to identify different types, gauges, and colors of cables and wires.
• Reliable, accountable, and consistent in performing administrative processes.
• Knowledge and experience with lockout/tagout systems.
• Willingness to follow all safety regulations.
• Ability to work the designated schedule and overtime as needed.
• Must possess all required tools and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous employment with Zachry.
• Licensed Journeyman Electrician.
• National Center for Construction Education and Research’s (NCCER) certification for Industrial Journeyman Electrician.
• Formal/technical education.

Physical Requirements

• Adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting, and lifting.
• Communicate by talking and hearing.
• Use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls, and tools.
• Pick up, lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs.
• Work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and occasionally work off platforms/scaffolding using appropriate fall protection.
• Work in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold, and wind) while wearing appropriate PPE.
• Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs, masks/respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves, and leather steel-toed work boots.
• Ability to work at heights exceeding 300 ft.
