About the Role
Supervises and coordinates the work of a crew of workers within a specific craft or trade. The primary focus is ensuring employees under their management perform their jobs skillfully and efficiently while progressing assigned work in a timely manner.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily tasks according to priorities and plans, adjusting for weather, supply, delivery, and personnel changes.
- Delegate individual responsibilities and projects to crew members and contractors.
- Recruit, hire, train, manage, and mentor employees and contractors.
- Provide adequate resources and staffing to meet project schedules, laws, regulations, best practices, and safety needs.
- Emphasize safe use of tools, machinery, and equipment, including training on safety gear, helmets, and procedures.
- Develop and manage project budgets and quality standards for all sites.
- Resolve conflicts or miscommunications quickly and amicably.
- Regularly report project status to supervisors, site engineers, and other officials.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent years of experience.
- Appropriate training and experience in the relevant craft or trade.
Skills
- Customer-service skills: Communicate with inspectors and administration to develop positive working relationships.
- Decision-making skills: Select personnel and subcontractors for specific tasks to meet deadlines and budgets.
- Leadership skills: Effectively delegate tasks to workers.
- Speaking skills: Provide clear orders, explain complex information, and discuss technical details.
- Technical skills: Interpret construction methods, technologies, contracts, and technical drawings.
- Time-management skills: Meet deadlines and ensure construction phases are completed on time.
- Writing skills: Write budgets, proposals, plans, and document work progress.
Physical Requirements
- Work easily and skillfully with hands.
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders and scaffolds.
- See well (naturally or with correction) and distinguish colors.
- Reach for, handle, and grasp wires and hand tools.
- Bend, crouch, and work in small places.
- Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
