General Education Teacher

About the Role

The General Education Teacher provides academic support, manages scholars' testing needs, documents course completion, and develops activities for life skills growth. This role involves close collaboration with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues to deliver high-quality education and foster a positive learning environment.

Responsibilities

• Deliver instruction aligned with subject-area curriculum and instructional strategies.
• Develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with diverse needs.
• Use varied instructional techniques and resources to engage learners and promote academic growth.
• Monitor student progress, provide timely feedback, and offer additional support as needed.
• Administer and proctor tests and assessments in a secure and fair environment.
• Maintain accurate records of student test scores and performance data.
• Analyze assessment results to identify areas for improvement and develop targeted intervention strategies.
• Collaborate with colleagues to align testing practices and ensure consistent evaluation of student progress.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, assignments, and grades.
• Prepare progress reports and report cards in a timely manner.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding scholar progress and areas for improvement.
• Participate in parent-teacher conferences to discuss academic performance and growth opportunities.
• Incorporate life skills education into the curriculum to promote holistic development.
• Design and facilitate activities that enhance critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.
• Collaborate with community organizations to provide real-world experiences and skill-building opportunities.
• Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, empathy, and personal growth.
• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
• Assess and monitor students' progress, tracking academic, social, and emotional development.
• Adapt instructional materials and techniques to accommodate students' learning styles and abilities.
• Provide direct instruction in academic subjects, life skills, and social skills.
• Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure inclusion of students with disabilities.
• Utilize assistive technology and other resources to enhance student learning and independence.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of students' IEPs, progress, and interventions.
• Communicate regularly with parents/guardians to provide updates on students' progress and address concerns.
• Collaborate with professionals such as speech therapists, occupational therapists, and psychologists.
• Attend IEP meetings, staff meetings, professional development sessions, and parent-teacher conferences.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in special education or a related field.
• State teaching certification or licensure in the relevant subject area.
• Previous experience in teaching or related educational roles, preferably in a K-12 setting.
• Strong knowledge of subject-area curriculum and strategies.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with scholars, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
• Ability to manage classroom dynamics, maintain discipline, and create an inclusive learning environment.
• Proficiency in using instructional technology and software applications relevant to teaching.
• Understanding of assessment principles and ability to analyze student performance data for instructional planning.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills to plan instruction, manage tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Cultural sensitivity and ability to adapt strategies to meet unique needs.
• Flexibility in scheduling, including availability for weekends and late days.
