Our Students

Walden is a broad-access institution offering degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Our undergraduate population is 80% female, 44% white, 36% Black, with 10% identifying as Hispanic or Latino. We proudly support LGBTQIAA+, (dis)abled, first-generation college students, working parents, caregivers, military veterans, and students from diverse cultural, linguistic, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Our students range from 25 to 75 years old, with 34% in the 30-39 age demographic. We recognize the impact of intersectionality and strive to provide tailored community, support, and rigor.

About the School of Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Studies

The School of Interdisciplinary Undergraduate Studies houses General Education courses and the B.S. in Communications. We meet students where they are, supporting them as they balance life and learning. Our philosophy is that we are all lifelong learners, and we understand the challenges our students face as they pursue their academic and professional goals.

Responsibilities

• Provide course instruction as assigned in asynchronous online modalities (course-based with 6-week terms or competency-based using a subscription model).
• Engage in classrooms at least 5 days a week, facilitating and participating in discussion boards.
• Assess student work and provide substantive, timely feedback.
• Be available to students via video chat or phone as needed.
• Establish an accessible and supportive virtual classroom environment.
• Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors, sharing experience and observations.
• Occasional additional duties may include:
  • Course content development.
  • Service on university and school committees or initiatives.

Training

All new faculty members receive training in online teaching techniques, including:

• Use of the Learning Management System (LMS).
• Policies, procedures, and degree programs specific to their teaching assignments.
• Socialization into Walden University’s culture.
• Assessment of academic integrity, including use of TurnItIn.com and acceptable use of AI.

A faculty peer mentor is appointed at the start of the first teaching assignment to provide mentorship and establish collegiality.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in the discipline being taught or a closely related field (required).
• Three or more years of postsecondary teaching experience (preferred).
• Experience teaching adult learners, particularly in a community college setting (strongly preferred). Extensive secondary (7-12) teaching experience may also be considered.
• Experience teaching in an online or distance-learning environment (preferred).

Pay

• Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per quarter or semester, depending on course type and length.
• Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter, depending on course type and length.

Actual pay may be adjusted based on job-related factors permitted by law, such as course type, experience, geographic location, market factors, and departmental budgets.

Additional opportunities for contributing faculty include dissertation/doctoral study committee chair positions, research reviewing, and dissertation/doctoral study mentoring.
