General Cleaner (K-12) Full-Time

Work Schedule
We have a limited number of full-time shifts available in Burlington, Elon, Graham, Snow Camp, and Mebane. Workdays are Monday through Friday, with shift times varying between 7am to 3:30pm, 8am to 4:30pm, 9am to 5:30pm, 11am to 7pm, and 12pm to 8pm.
Duties
- Day Cleaning:
- Open building and check for maintenance issues
- Respond to requests from Principals and teachers
- Policing entrance areas and spot cleaning door glass
- Cleaning cafeteria daily after breakfast and lunch
- Dusting mop halls after class breaks as needed
- Monitoring restrooms after each class break - mopping floors, spot cleaning sinks, vanities, counter tops, mirrors, floors, and walls, picking up paper and flushing commodes and urinals, and taking out trash
- Picking up trash outside of the building at least once per day
- Changing light bulbs and tubes as needed
- Cleaning and mopping any accidents that may occur during the day
- Cleaning electrical rooms and storage closets as needed
- General Cleaning:
- Performing general clean-up of all buildings as directed
- Maintaining and fully equipping rooms
- Gathering and emptying trash and recycling
- May include transporting trash from collection points to incinerators, compactors, or pickup areas
- Inside window pane, glass surfaces, and mirror cleaning to heights no greater than body height plus an arm's extension from floor level during periodic cleaning maintenance programs
- Polishing metal fixtures or trimmings
- Completing non-routine cleaning according to specified job orders, handling emergency cleaning and upkeep requests, and tackling heavy cleaning jobs upon request
- Maintaining and upkeeping of all cleaning equipment and supplies
- Reporting repairs and replacements needed when encountered on the job
- Mixing and disposing of all cleaning solutions appropriately
- Following all health and safety regulations
- Ensuring safe and sanitary storage and care of products
- Floors:
- Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and vacuuming floors
- Spot cleaning carpets
- Steaming cleaning or shampooing carpets as needed or if in the contract
- Using electrically powered scrubbing and polishing machines to burnish, scrub, and polish floors
- Following procedures for using chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage
- Replenishing consumable items such as soap, toilet rolls, paper towels, if required within the contract
- Bathroom Cleaner:
- Cleaning toilets, urinals, hand basins, sinks, baths, showers, and drinking fountains, and wiping surfaces
- Replenishing consumables such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.
- Emptying trash and sanitary bins
- Cleaning fans and vents
- Mopping and scrubbing floors
- Cleaning grout as needed
- Completing any other duties assigned by supervisor
Abilities/Skills
- Able to handle heavy janitorial equipment and tools
- Able to follow verbal directions and schedules
- Able to work well alone, with a partner, or with a team
- Reliable and punctual with a dedicated professionalism to the job and duties
- Able to adapt to changing schedules
- Excellent time management skills and attention to details
Scope/Complexity
Candidates must exhibit a strong attention to detail. They need to have the ability to work well under minimal supervision, take direction from supervisors, and communicate effectively. They must also be physically capable of standing for long periods, walking, bending, reaching, stretching, pushing, pulling, and lifting repetitively during working hours. They must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs. as necessary.
