General Cleaner (K-12) Part-Time Only

About the role

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, Shift times vary between 4pm to 8pm or 4pm to 9pm daily. Location: Part Time shifts available in Burlington, Elon, Graham, Snow Camp, and Mebane NC. Pay Rate: $15 an hour, bi-weekly.

Summary

The custodian cleans and keeps in an orderly condition in various areas such as classrooms, bathrooms, offices, cafeterias, common areas, gym and fitness areas, and perimeter grounds. Duties include sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and polishing floors; removing chips, trash, or other refuse; dusting equipment, furniture, or fixtures; polishing metal fixtures or trimmings; providing supplies and minor maintenance services; and cleaning lavatories, showers, and restrooms.

Requirements

• General Cleaning: Performs general clean-up of all buildings as directed, ensures rooms are maintained and fully equipped, cleaning and sanitizing offices, meeting rooms, and public areas. Dusts furniture, walls, machines, and equipment. Services, cleans, and supplies rooms. Gathers and empties trash and recycling.
• Inside Window Pane, Glass Surfaces, and Mirror Cleaning: Cleans inside window panes, glass surfaces, and mirrors to heights no greater than body height plus an arm's extension from floor level during periodic cleaning maintenance programs.
• Polishing Metal Fixtures or Trimmings: Completes non-routine cleaning according to specified job orders, handles emergency cleaning and upkeep requests, and tackles heavy cleaning jobs upon request. Maintains and upkeeps of all cleaning equipment, supplies, and products. Reports repairs and replacements needed when encountered on job. Mixes and disposes of all cleaning solutions appropriately. Follows all health and safety regulations. Ensures safe and sanitary storage and care of products.
• Floors: Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and vacuums floors. Spot cleans carpets. Steam cleans or shampoos carpets as needed or if in the contract. Uses electrically powered scrubbing and polishing machines to burnish, scrub, polish floors. Follows procedures for use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage. Replenishes consumable items such as soap, toilet rolls, paper towels if required within the contract.
• Bathroom Cleaner: Cleans toilets, urinals, hand basins, sinks, baths, showers, and drinking fountains, and wipes surfaces. Replenishes consumables such as soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. Empty trash and sanitary bins. Dusts the fan/vent. Mops and scrubs floors. Cleans grout as needed. Completes any other duties assigned by supervisor.

Scope/Complexity

Candidates must exhibit a strong attention to detail. Have an ability to work well under minimum supervision. Have the capacity to take direction from supervisors. Exhibit excellent communication skills and have the ability to work as a team. Candidate must be able to stand for long lengths, walk, bend, reach, stretch, push, pull, and lift repetitively during working hours. Candidate needs to be physically capable of lifting and moving objects up to 50 lbs. as necessary.
