About the role

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in clean, sanitary, and orderly condition and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean in a counter‑clockwise direction around the room — high‑dust surfaces above shoulder height (lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges). Clean the high duster by gently brushing downward into the service cart.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, work counter‑clockwise around the room sanitizing surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, trash cans). Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot‑clean windows with proper solution.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using germicidal solution, wipe down in order: above and below sink; toilet seat and outside of toilet bowl; inside of toilet with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and check soap and paper dispensers daily; refill as needed.
  • Empty Trash Cans: If liquid is present, remove liner and wipe can; place clean liner.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Using a treated dust mop, start at the back of the room with an “S” stroke to catch dust on the leading edge. Dust under all furniture and in restrooms, stopping just inside the door. Clean mophead with counter brush (downward stroke), sweep dust onto dustpan, dispose into service cart. When vacuuming, start at the back and work toward the door, getting under chairs and furniture.
  • Grounds Care — Outside Areas: Clean and check several times daily:
    • Empty and clean ash urns and trash cans.
    • Police sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts.
    • Spot‑clean spills on sidewalks; remove gum with scraper.
    • Wipe benches and vending machines.
    • Wipe lower window ledges.
    • High‑dust for dust and cobwebs.
    • Clean public‑area glass as necessary.

    • Check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables; place chairs back under tables. Spot‑clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove accumulated dirty trays to wash room and clean using tray power washer; stack clean trays on shelf for reuse. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room. Mop under furniture and behind doors while backing out.
  • Self‑Inspection: After completing a room, mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement; make corrections to prevent problems/complaints.
  • Daily Coverage: Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations & Service:
    • Knock lightly before entering occupied rooms.
