About the role

The primary purpose of this role is to perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in a clean, sanitary, and orderly condition, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Responsibilities

• High dusting using a treated high duster, cleaning surfaces above shoulder height, such as lights, curtain tips, vents, and ledges
• Sanitizing and spot cleaning using a germicidal solution, working in a counter-clockwise direction around the room, sanitizing surfaces below shoulder height
• Bathroom cleaning, including wiping down sinks, toilet seats, and the outside of toilet bowls, and cleaning and checking soap and paper dispensers daily
• Emptying trash cans, removing liners, and wiping down trash cans
• Floor dusting or vacuuming, using a treated dust mophead or vacuum, and cleaning under furniture and in restrooms
• Grounds care, including emptying and cleaning ash urns and trash cans, policing sidewalks and flower beds, and spot cleaning spills on sidewalks
• Cleaning public common areas, including dust mopping and spot mopping main hallways, cleaning glass, and checking for cobwebs and dirt
• Cleaning the food court, including removing trash, sanitizing tables, and spot cleaning for spills
• Floor sanitizing, using a germicidal solution, and mopping under furniture and behind doors
• Performing a mental review of cleaning steps and visually checking furniture placement after completing a room
• Providing customer relations and service, including knocking lightly on doors, being friendly and cheerful, and reporting any broken or out-of-order items to supervisors

Qualifications

This role requires knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work, basic methods and materials used in janitorial work, and basic safe work practices. The ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, communicate with coworkers and supervisors, and operate powered and non-powered janitorial equipment is also necessary.

The role requires maintaining a physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties, which may include walking, standing, or sitting for extended periods, operating equipment, lifting and carrying equipment and supplies, and climbing stairs and ladders.
