Primary Purpose

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them clean, sanitary and orderly, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Essential Responsibilities

• High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, begin cleaning in a counter‑clockwise direction around the room, dusting surfaces above shoulder height such as lights above doors, curtain tips, vents and ledges. Clean the high duster by gently brushing it downward into the service cart.
• Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Apply a germicidal solution while moving counter‑clockwise, sanitizing surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trash cans). Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot‑clean windows.
• Bathroom Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, wipe in order: above and below sink, toilet seat and exterior of bowl, interior of bowl with a Johnnie Mop and solution, paying attention to the rim. Check and refill soap and paper dispensers daily.
• Empty Trash Cans: Remove liners if liquid is present, wipe the can, place a clean liner, and dispose of waste in the service cart.
• Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: With a treated dust mop head, start at the back of the room using an “S” stroke, dust under all furniture and in restrooms, then sweep dust into a dustpan. When vacuuming, start at the back and work toward the door, ensuring coverage under chairs and other furniture.
• Grounds Care (Outside Areas): Clean and check several times daily; empty and clean ash urns and trash cans, police sidewalks, flower beds and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts, spot‑clean spills, remove gum, wipe benches, vending machines, lower window ledges, high‑dust for cobwebs, clean public‑area glass, police parking lot for trash.
• Public Common Areas: Dust‑mop and spot‑mop main hallways, clean glass multiple times daily, clean planters inside and out, high‑dust window areas at least twice weekly, check corners and edges for debris.
• Food Court: Clean, remove trash and sanitize tables, return chairs, spot‑clean spills, empty and clean trash cans, transport dirty trays to washroom for power‑washing, stack clean trays for recycling, police outside eating areas.
• Floor Sanitizing: Apply germicidal solution starting at the back of the room, mop under furniture and behind doors while backing out.
• Inspection: After completing a room, mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement, hallways, lobby, stairs, water fountains, walls, and perform high dusting daily.
• Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly before entering occupied rooms, be friendly and cheerful, answer questions courteously or refer appropriately, report broken items, work quietly, stay in assigned area unless directed, maintain a clean personal appearance, report incomplete assignments at shift end, and be courteous at all times.
• Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor or Account Manager, which may include floor care such as stripping and waxing floors, carpet extraction and bonneting, auto‑scrub and buffing.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of: Basic janitorial operations, methods, materials and equipment; basic safe work practices; use of toxic and non‑toxic chemicals per MSDS sheets.
• Ability to: Understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate sufficiently with co‑workers and supervisors; operate powered and non‑powered janitorial equipment; interpret written instructions and warning labels on cleaning chemicals; maintain physical condition appropriate to duties.
• Physical Demands: Walking, standing or sitting for extended periods; operating powered and non‑powered equipment; lifting/carrying 1–30 lb items; pushing/pulling with both hands; climbing stairs and ladders; bending, twisting, balancing; kneeling, crouching, crawling; reaching overhead; visual acuity for depth perception, hand‑eye coordination, and safety standards.
