About the role
This position will specifically cover the Houston inner-loop communities of Bellaire, Meyerland and West University.
Responsibilities
- Reporting unbiased, hyperlocal news for readers in a major metro market.
- Create data-rich, engaging content that takes a different approach to local storytelling.
- Deliver stories directly to tens of thousands of readers’ homes and engage with them on digital platforms.
- Write stories about your community, covering topics of interest to residents of Bellaire, Meyerland, and West University.
- Collaborate with Graphic Designers to make your media as beautiful as it is meaningful.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of journalism experience preferred.
- Experience writing for a local newspaper or similar publication.
- Ability to work outside of regular office hours to attend community meetings.
- Ability to be out in the communities we serve taking photos and connecting with sources.
Skills
- Strong writing and storytelling skills.
- Ability to research and report on local issues.
- Proficiency in using digital tools for data analysis and visualization.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
