General Assignment Reporter - Inner Loop

About the role

This position will specifically cover the Houston inner-loop communities of Bellaire, Meyerland and West University.

Responsibilities

• Reporting unbiased, hyperlocal news for readers in a major metro market.
• Create data-rich, engaging content that takes a different approach to local storytelling.
• Deliver stories directly to tens of thousands of readers’ homes and engage with them on digital platforms.
• Write stories about your community, covering topics of interest to residents of Bellaire, Meyerland, and West University.
• Collaborate with Graphic Designers to make your media as beautiful as it is meaningful.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of journalism experience preferred.
• Experience writing for a local newspaper or similar publication.
• Ability to work outside of regular office hours to attend community meetings.
• Ability to be out in the communities we serve taking photos and connecting with sources.

Skills

• Strong writing and storytelling skills.
• Ability to research and report on local issues.
• Proficiency in using digital tools for data analysis and visualization.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Pay

$46,000 annually.

Schedule
