GED Prep Teacher

About the Role

We serve adults who have never attended school, those preparing for their GED exams, individuals who are low-income or from the migrant community, and any adult in need of the classes we provide. Students participate in group classes and receive individual tutoring, primarily staffed by volunteers.

Program Impact (2021)

• 77 students served in the 6th year of the program.
• Ongoing classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays in late afternoons for Reading/Writing, English, and Computer Basics.
• In June, expanded to Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday English classes from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
• In August, began Monday and Wednesday English classes at the New Horizons location from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
• Special classes in Exercise, Health & Wellness taught by UF/IFAS FNP staff and volunteers.
• Assistance in preparing students for GED exams in English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
