GEAR-UP College and Career Tutor

Summary

The GEAR UP College & Career Tutor provides cohort students with academic support in classroom and after‑school settings for CORE content areas, under the supervision of the classroom teacher and the GEAR UP program manager. Tutoring may be delivered individually or in small groups, and tutors are responsible for maintaining accurate records and entering tutoring data into the GEAR UP database weekly.

Responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day in‑class and out‑of‑class (after‑school) tutoring support.
• Maintain accurate and complete records for GEAR UP.
• Provide teachers with weekly updates regarding students' progress.
• Collaborate with the Program Manager to purchase tutoring supplies.
• Enter tutoring data into the GEAR UP database weekly.
• Provide monthly program updates to the school district Program Manager.
• Participate in all GEAR UP training and professional development.
• Travel to GEAR UP meetings within the school district.
• Participate in on‑site evaluation visits.
• Contribute to the development of the annual action plan.
• Perform other duties as required for effective implementation of the GEAR UP program.
• Maintain student confidentiality.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Pennsylvania Teaching Certification in secondary subjects is desired but not required.
• Ability to be flexible when working with young adults.
• Knowledge of school‑district curriculum and college‑access requirements.
• Computer skills in the latest Microsoft Windows operating systems and associated software.
• Experience in teaching Mathematics or English is preferred but not required.
• Good communication skills.
• Satisfactory work record and current criminal/child‑abuse clearances (Acts 34, 114, and 151) as applicable.

Pay

Salary range: $15.00 per hour.
