About the Role

South Bow is seeking a safety-focused and detail-oriented Gauger Technician to support terminal and facility operations by ensuring the safe, reliable, and accurate movement of petroleum products. This role plays a critical part in petroleum quality assurance, inventory accountability, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. The Gauger Technician is responsible for petroleum measurement, quality assurance, inventory management, and custody transfer activities across terminal and pipeline facilities. This position provides advanced technical expertise in product sampling, testing, gauging, measurement systems, and inventory reconciliation while supporting the safe and efficient movement of crude oil and refined products.

Working independently with limited supervision, the Gauger Technician identifies and resolves operational issues, supports regulatory compliance, and serves as a technical resource for other operations personnel. This role plays a critical part in ensuring measurement accuracy, product integrity, and operational reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced petroleum measurement, gauging, sampling, and quality control activities.
  • Execute custody transfer measurement activities and ensure accurate documentation of product movements.
  • Monitor tank inventories, product quality, operating parameters, and facility conditions.
  • Collect and analyze product samples and perform routine quality testing in accordance with established procedures.
  • Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate measurement, sampling, and gauging equipment.
  • Investigate inventory discrepancies and support reconciliation activities.
  • Conduct inspections of tanks, pipelines, pumps, meters, and supporting facility equipment.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve operational issues while escalating concerns when required.
  • Support planned and unplanned maintenance activities and equipment outages.
  • Maintain accurate operational, quality, measurement, and regulatory records.
  • Coordinate activities with Operations, Measurement, Maintenance, Commercial, and third-party stakeholders.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced technicians.
  • Participate in emergency response activities and support incident investigations.
  • Demonstrate leadership in safety, environmental compliance, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 4–6 years of experience in pipeline, terminal, petroleum measurement, quality assurance, refinery, or related industrial operations.
  • Experience performing petroleum sampling, testing, gauging, and custody transfer activities.
  • Working knowledge of inventory control, measurement standards, and product quality requirements.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound operational decisions.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications and operational management systems.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or technical diploma in a related field.
  • Experience with LACT units, automated sampling systems, tank gauging systems, and flow measurement equipment.
  • Knowledge of API measurement standards and industry best practices.
  • Experience training or mentoring field operations personnel.
  • Previous experience in pipeline terminal or storage operations.

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in both office and field environments.
  • Frequent exposure to varying weather conditions and industrial operating environments.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and elevated structures.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment and materials as required.
  • Participation in after-hours callouts, emergency response activities, and on-call rotations may be required.
  • Travel to operational facilities may be required.

Schedule

  • Rotational Shift Schedule 980s (7 days on/7 days off).
  • Shift coverage as needed.
