Gate Crew

About the role

We are hiring for Gate Crew in our racing department. This is a seasonal, full-time position for the 2026 Racing Season, which is now officially underway.

Responsibilities

• School horses in the morning.
• Set up the gate for the start of each race and ensure the best possible start.
• Teach and familiarize young horses with the gate to break and school horses on the starter's list.
• Set the gate on the track and manage gate numbers.
• Rake tire tracks before and after each race.
• Follow proper procedures for getting the gate on and off the track each race.
• Move starting stands to each starting distance.
• Make equipment changes on the horse.
• Load and handle horses for each race.
• Assist in loading horses that pull up during or after the race.
• Oversee and accomplish other duties as assigned.
• Clock horses during morning workouts as needed.
• Send workout results to Equibase and verify all horses have a workout within the past 60 days.

Requirements

• Hard‑working and motivated.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Previous experience riding or handling horses.
• Previous starting gate experience and knowledge of related PA Racing Rules.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Pennsylvania Racing License.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.
