Gas Turbine Mechanic Trainee - 1st Shift
About the role
EthosEnergy is seeking a Gas Turbine Rotor Mechanic Trainee on a first shift basis for our Houston, TX facility. This entry-level technical role supports the disassembly, inspection, measurement, repair, and assembly of industrial gas turbine rotor components. Under the guidance of experienced rotor mechanics, the trainee will build the skills needed to support maintenance and overhaul work on General Electric (GE) and Siemens Westinghouse industrial gas turbine rotors.
Responsibilities
- Support the disassembly and assembly of GE and Siemens Westinghouse gas turbine rotors and related components.
- Remove, clean, inspect, and prepare rotating components for repair and reassembly.
- Assist with installing and removing compressor wheels, turbine wheels, spacers, tie bolts, and related hardware.
- Support rotor stacking and unstacking in accordance with approved procedures.
- Perform dimensional inspections using precision tools such as micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges, calipers, depth gauges, and height gauges.
- Document inspection results in reports and required quality records.
- Assist with runout checks, concentricity measurements, and alignment verification.
- Learn rotor inspection methods, including visual inspection, dimensional checks, and acceptance criteria review.
- Safely operate overhead cranes, forklifts, and shop equipment after completing required training and certification.
- Prepare components for cleaning, blasting, machining, and non-destructive examination (NDE).
- Maintain clean, organized work areas in line with 5S and housekeeping standards.
- Assist with tooling setup and equipment preparation for rotor projects.
- Accurately complete work instructions, inspection reports, and job documentation.
- Follow all quality procedures and customer requirements.
- Help maintain traceability of rotor components and hardware.
- Participate in quality improvement activities and root cause investigations as needed.
- Comply with all company safety policies and procedures.
- Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) properly.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and job hazard assessments.
- Maintain awareness of lifting, rigging, and stored-energy hazards related to large rotating equipment.
Requirements
- Mechanical aptitude with an interest in industrial rotating equipment.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Ability to read and follow technical procedures and work instructions.
- Ability to complete basic mathematical calculations.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
- Ability to work safely in an industrial shop setting.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from experienced team members.
- Technical school, vocational training, or coursework in industrial maintenance, machining, mechanical technology, or a related field.
- Experience in manufacturing, maintenance, machining, or mechanical assembly environments.
- Familiarity with precision measuring tools.
- Basic ability to read blueprints.
Qualifications
0-2 years of previous experience in manufacturing, maintenance, machining, or mechanical assembly preferred.
High School Diploma or GED. Associate degree, technical certificate, or vocational training in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Technology, Machining Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred.
Physical Requirements
Stand and walk for extended periods. Lift to 50 lbs. independently and heavier loads with assistance or lifting equipment. Work around large rotating components and industrial machinery. Bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and work in varying shop conditions. Wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed footwear.
