Gas Service Technician I,II
About the role
Performs company field operations including manual labor and other duties necessary to accomplish the installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas distribution facilities. Handles customer requests and represents the Company in the community.
Responsibilities
- Initiates gas service and performs leak investigations and repairs.
- Locates gas lines.
- Reads gas meters.
- Conducts load surveys.
- Completes work orders in system for documentation.
- Serves as First Responder in emergency situations.
- Conducts Cathodic Protection system monitoring activities.
- Conducts odorization activities.
Gas Service Tech II includes all the above duties, plus:
- May instruct service employees as needed.
Requirements
- High school education or GED.
- Must live within 20 miles of Madison or Ridgeland, MS, or be able to relocate within 30 days of being hired.
- Service Tech I: No prior work experience required.
- Service Tech II: Minimum of two years in construction, installation, or maintenance of gas distribution systems.

Physical Requirements
- Able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and minimal force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
- Able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs and ladders, and crawl in confined spaces such as attics or crawl spaces.
- Able to exert routine physical effort on a regular basis.
- Able to use a variety of hand and/or power tools.
- Able to operate a motor vehicle and enter/exit unassisted.
Working Conditions
- Work is performed in a normal office environment with normal noise levels, predominately while standing or sitting.
- Ability to comprehend, document, calculate, visualize, and analyze is required.
- Routine exposure to all weather conditions.
- Regular hours with occasional overtime; may require rotating shifts.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as respirator, safety glasses, hardhat, gloves, protective footwear, and earplugs daily.
- Handle emergency situations, including possible exposure to gaseous atmospheres.
- Respond to callouts and occasionally return to work while off duty.
- Included in random drug screen pool for DOT safety-sensitive positions.
- May be required to remain in the service area during emergencies to aid in restoration efforts.
