Gardener Sr (Full time) - Portland OR Temple

About the role

Maintain the temple grounds to reflect the beauty, cleanliness, and sacred nature of the temple experience, adhering to standards established by the First Presidency. Perform gardener and grounds keeping work, including care for landscaped areas, sidewalks, driveways, building entrances, and other assigned areas. Provide work direction and technical assistance to gardeners and volunteers, resolving routine questions and problems. May assist with seasonal displays.

Responsibilities

• Mow lawns using hand and power mowers.
• Maintain the original landscape plan by planting perennials, shrubs, and trees.
• Trim and edge around walls, flower beds, and walks using hand clippers and power edging tools.
• Operate heavy tractors and other large power equipment to maintain the landscape.
• Prune and shape shrubs and trees to enhance growth efficiency and beauty.
• Diagnose routine pest control problems, develop spray programs, and measure applications.
• Spray lawns, shrubs, and trees for disease, weed, and insect control, and perform regular fertilization as needed, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
• Ensure all power equipment and machines are properly maintained and repaired; may perform minor maintenance and repairs.
• Assist in supervising temporary and volunteer help.
• Water lawn and garden areas and perform maintenance on automated and manual watering systems.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Three to five years of experience in grounds maintenance, horticulture, gardening, agriculture, landscape design, or a related field.
• Knowledge of various plants and fertilizers.
• Ability to follow directions, work independently, and collaborate with a team.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
