Garbage Truck Helper/Slinger - Dothan, AL

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Aid the driver with curbside collection of residential solid waste.
• Load bags, containers, and loose debris into the collection vehicle.
• Maintain steady route pace to ensure timely completion.
• Identify and report prohibited materials or safety hazards.
• Assist with cleanup of spills or debris during collection.
• Follow all company safety policies and driver instructions.
• Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Communicate effectively with driver and supervisor.
• Represent the company professionally to the public.

Safety Responsibilities

• Follow all company safety procedures.
• Remain alert to traffic, pedestrians, and animals.
• Ride only in designated riding areas of the truck.
• Report injuries, near-misses, or unsafe conditions immediately.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods.
• Ability to follow verbal instructions and work as part of a team.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Waste collection or outdoor labor experience preferred, but not required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds repeatedly.
• Frequent bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, and walking.
• Ability to ride on exterior step of vehicle as permitted.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods.

Work Schedule

Early morning start times. Monday through Friday with occasional weekends as required. Overtime may be required based on route demands.
