Garage Supervisor/Mechanic

About the role

The Richfield Public School District is seeking a Garage Supervisor / Mechanic to oversee and coordinate the work of all garage mechanics. This role involves maintaining and repairing all motor vehicles, transportation equipment, and motorized maintenance equipment (e.g., mowers, snow blowers, tractors) owned by the District, prioritizing tasks based on seasonal considerations to ensure all vehicles and equipment remain in safe, reliable, and ready-to-use condition.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain current knowledge of District policies, protocols, and procedures to perform work independently and purposefully.
• Foster collaborative work relationships to contribute to a productive workplace.
• Establish and communicate garage work schedules based on backlogs, priorities, and seasonal needs.
• Inventory stock items, order supplies, and repair parts following District procurement policies.
• Participate in formulating specifications for transportation equipment per State of Minnesota regulations.
• Develop, refine, and implement preventive maintenance schedules and vehicle/equipment replacement plans.
• Promptly inform supervisors of issues requiring immediate attention.
• Inspect vehicles for wear and tear (e.g., brakes, hoses, engines, radiators, fluids) according to District service schedules.
• Rebuild transmissions and replace malfunctioning parts to restore vehicles and equipment safely and reliably.
• Maintain cost records for all work performed to support preventive maintenance and replacement decisions.
• Instruct District vehicle drivers on general care, pre-trip steps, and the importance of reporting operating problems.
• May perform school bus driver duties to cover routes during absences.

Requirements

• Minimum of two years of experience providing clear, consistent work direction to mechanics in a comparable garage setting.
• Knowledge of Federal and State school bus safety regulations and ability to maintain a compliant fleet.
• Ability to secure and maintain appropriate school bus licensure.
• Experience working in a diverse community and commitment to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Pay

The minimum pay rate for this position is $30.32 - $35.62 per hour.
