Garage Services Manager

About the role

An employee in this position is responsible for supervising the operation of the garage and the employees engaged in repairing and servicing a variety of vehicles and equipment and tracking work orders and parts.

Responsibilities

• Assigning work to mechanics
• Ordering parts
• Quality control
• Preparing and maintaining records of repairs, parts inventory, and warranties
• Participating in mechanical work when needed
• Performing cost analysis of repair options
• Preparing and monitoring the garage budget
• Assuring quality control
• Monitoring garage safety
• Soliciting repair estimates by outside garages
• Training personnel
• Establishing and maintaining vehicle history records
• Advising management on repair or replacement decisions for vehicles and equipment
• Some Emergency Call-Back after hours/weekends
• May require work during inclement weather

Requirements

• Proficiency in the use of a computer
• Subject to hazards associated with mechanical repairs including working in both indoor and outdoor environments and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, vibration, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and oils
• Work is performed under the general supervision of the County Manager and is reviewed through observation, reports, and the overall effectiveness of the work unit
• CDL license preferred

Qualifications

• Associates degree in Automotive Systems Technology preferred, or related degree and considerable experience at the journey level mechanic, including experience in a supervisory or lead worker capacity
• Or an equivalent combination of experience and education
