With a focus on quality, timeliness, and relevance, we aim to be a go-to destination for passionate gaming fans and curious newcomers alike.

We're looking for passionate and knowledgeable freelance Gaming Writers who can create timely, engaging content around the biggest stories, releases, trends, and conversations in the gaming industry. This role goes beyond writing articles—it's about connecting with a dedicated gaming audience and driving meaningful readership through insightful, relevant content.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor gaming news cycles, new releases, trending topics, and community conversations to surface timely content opportunities.
  • Research and write engaging, accurate articles covering the games, franchises, and stories that matter to Polygon's audience.
  • Identify compelling angles around breaking news, industry developments, emerging trends, and gaming culture.
  • Work closely with editors to align coverage with editorial priorities and publishing schedules.
  • Work independently while consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Ensure timely publication of relevant content aligned with SEO and audience engagement goals.
  • Follow Polygon's editorial, style, and formatting guidelines rigorously.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of experience in digital journalism or online publishing.
  • Ability to independently research, write, and submit clean, accurate content on tight deadlines.
  • Strong knowledge of the gaming industry, including major franchises, platforms, developers, publishers, and current releases.
  • Strong understanding of gaming culture, internet trends, memes, and online communities.
  • Ability to identify stories and angles with strong audience potential.
  • Passion for video games, entertainment, and digital storytelling.
  • Familiarity with SEO best practices and headline strategy.
  • Experience working with CMS tools.
  • Adherence to Polygon’s Editorial Standards, including a prohibition on using Artificial Intelligence.
