Responsibilities

  • Conduct statewide overt and covert criminal investigations in Ohio casinos and illegal casinos.
  • Perform surveillance (audio, video, visual, and photographic).
  • Prepare and submit detailed investigative reports for criminal and/or regulatory violations.
  • Author and prepare detailed search warrants for presentation to the proper court jurisdiction.
  • Compile intelligence information and prepare detailed reports for submission to internal and external intelligence personnel.
  • Interview victims, witnesses, and subjects for criminal and regulatory investigations.
  • Collect, preserve, and properly secure evidence for processing.
  • Prepare criminal cases for presentation to prosecutors, including testimony in Grand Jury and courtroom settings.
  • Serve as liaison to and work with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
  • Verify casino/gaming equipment for compliance with Commission rules and regulations.
  • Provide assistance with problem gaming by enrolling individuals in the State of Ohio Voluntary Exclusion Program.

Requirements

  • 3.5 years of law enforcement or equivalent military law enforcement experience; OPOTC certification; and a valid driver’s license.
  • OR completion of an associate core program in criminal justice, social sciences (e.g., psychology, sociology, criminology), or a related field; 2 years of law enforcement experience; Ohio Peace Officer Training Certification (OPOTC); and a valid driver’s license.
  • OR equivalent of the minimum class qualifications noted above.

The final applicant must successfully pass a background check, including a polygraph, and submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment.

The Commission is a bipartisan regulatory body with seven Commissioners, an Executive Director, and supporting staff overseeing seven divisions: enforcement, legal counsel, licensing & investigations, operations, regulatory compliance, and responsible gambling.
