G/L Accountant
About the role
The G/L Accountant position offers a hands-on opportunity to support core accounting operations for a growing subsidiary of a large international organization. You will manage daily cash activity, support month-end close, prepare account reconciliations, maintain prepaid schedules and fixed assets, administer QuickBooks, and assist with financial reporting.
Responsibilities
- Manage daily cash activity and ensure accurate recording of cash transactions.
- Support the full month-end close process, including preparation and posting of journal entries.
- Prepare and maintain account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain and update prepaid schedules, fixed asset records, and operating lease schedules.
- Track and record accrued expenses and other accruals in accordance with accounting policies.
- Administer and maintain the QuickBooks accounting system, including general ledger maintenance.
- Support payroll processes by preparing and reviewing payroll-related entries and reconciliations.
- Prepare and process accounts receivable invoicing and support accounts payable activities as needed.
- Aid in the preparation of internal financial reports and schedules for management.
- Use advanced Excel functions to build, update, and maintain reports, reconciliations, and schedules.
- Ensure all accounting activities align with GAAP and internal controls.
- Prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate documentation.
- Collaborate closely with the Controller and other accounting team members to support ongoing operational accounting needs.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency with QuickBooks for general ledger and operational accounting activities.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, and complex formulas.
- Strong general ledger accounting experience, including journal entry preparation and posting.
- Hands-on experience with month-end close processes.
- Proven ability to prepare accurate account reconciliations and bank reconciliations.
- Experience managing prepaids, fixed assets, accruals, and leases.
- Experience working with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Experience preparing or supporting financial reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all accounting work.
- Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Clear and professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred.
- Experience working in a small accounting team environment.
- Comfort working directly with a Controller and supporting various operational accounting functions.
- Ability to adapt quickly in a temporary role and learn existing processes and systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to process improvement.
Work Environment
This role is based in Bedminster, NJ and is primarily onsite, with five days per week onsite preferred. You will work as part of a small accounting team that includes a Controller, two accountants, and office support staff, providing a collaborative and hands-on environment. Standard working hours are approximately 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with flexibility as needed to meet deadlines and support month-end close and other critical activities.
Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
