About the role

Under the direction of the middle school principal, plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for adolescent students. Working with interdisciplinary teams, provides a school culture conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of adolescents to ensure success for every student. Supervises middle school students in a variety of school-related settings. Communicates and collaborates with middle school students, staff, parents, and community. Develops, selects, and differentiates instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all middle school students. Maintains appropriate records, follows required procedures and practices, and uses data analysis to monitor student achievement. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver instructional experiences tailored to adolescent learners.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to foster a supportive school culture.
  • Supervise students in various school-related settings.
  • Communicate and collaborate with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Develop, select, and differentiate instructional materials to meet diverse student needs.
  • Maintain records, follow procedures, and use data to monitor student achievement.
  • Ensure proper use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field of education from an accredited college or university.
  • Meets Maryland state certification requirements in the appropriate field of education.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development, content expertise, and MCPS curriculum and policies.
  • Commitment to the belief that all students can learn, with high expectations for all learners.
  • Ability to use a variety of instructional and behavioral management strategies for middle school adolescents.
  • Proficiency in integrating reading, writing, math, and technology across content areas.
  • Ability to self-reflect on instructional practices and interactions for continuous improvement.
  • Strong oral and written communication and human relations skills.
  • Commitment to serving as an advocate and role model for young adolescents, supporting diversity in race, ethnicity, gender, developmental differences, learning styles, and exceptionalities.
  • Knowledge and application of the six performance standards in the MCPS Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS) and the Supporting Services (SEIU) Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Pay

The wage range for this position is a salary between $64,591 and $131,472 based on education and experience.
