About the Role

The Middle School Team Leader coordinates and manages the operations of a grade-level team, serving as an effective facilitator with strong interpersonal skills. This role focuses on coordinating the instructional program, collaborating across grade-level teams, and analyzing student achievement data to meet school improvement targets. The Team Leader promotes student and parent engagement and participates on the Leadership Team to implement school initiatives. Additional time and compensation are provided to support these responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the operations of a grade-level team.
  • Facilitate collaboration among teachers, students, parents, and administrators.
  • Analyze grade-level and individual student achievement data to ensure school improvement targets are met.
  • Promote and facilitate student and parent engagement.
  • Participate on the Leadership Team to implement school initiatives.
  • Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as required by the MCEA agreement.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of grade-level curriculum, assessment, and instruction.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, with a minimum of three years of outstanding teaching experience (one year in MCPS preferred).
  • Experience teaching in middle school.
  • Understanding of the middle school child and ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and administrators.
  • Strong skills in data collection and analysis of formative and summative data sources.
  • Proficiency in technology and knowledge of master scheduling.
  • Familiarity with Baldrige tools and practices.
  • Outstanding facilitation, organizational, and management skills.
  • Excellent oral, written communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge and application of the six performance standards in the MCPS Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS).
  • Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for a middle school assignment.

Qualifications

  • Holds, or is within one year of completing, a master’s degree or equivalent from an accredited institution.
  • Demonstrates excellent skills in working effectively with people.
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience may be considered.

Pay

Salary range: $66,690 to $135,745, based on education and experience.

Schedule

  • 10-month position (MCEA agreement).
  • Full-time, day shift.

Selection and continuance of service: Shall be selected by the principal and a team including teachers from the grade-level team. Evaluation will be conducted using the standards of the Teacher Professional Growth System.
