About the Role
Under the direction of the school principal, plans and provides English language development (ELD) instruction for students identified as eligible for ELD services through the state-mandated English language proficiency test. Collaborates with administrators, counselors, teachers, and other school staff to address the needs of Emergent Multilingual Learner (EML) students. Serves as a resource for information on EML students, cultural and linguistic differences, English language development, and the ELD instructional program. Provides support to parents, students, staff, and the community as needed.
Responsibilities
- Deliver ELD instruction to eligible students.
- Collaborate with school staff to address individual EML student needs.
- Serve as a resource for cultural, linguistic, and instructional support regarding ELD programs.
- Explain the ELD instructional program to parents and the community.
- Support students in adjusting to the academic and cultural environment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Maryland teacher certification in ESOL/ELD.
- Considerable knowledge of second language teaching/learning methods and techniques.
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, counselors, and school staff.
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Ability to support students in adjusting to the academic and cultural environment of MCPS.
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in another language in addition to English.

Pay
Salary range: $66,690 – $135,745, based on education and experience.
Schedule
- Full-time, 10-month working schedule.
- Day shift.
