Summary Description

Under direction/supervision of the school principal, the Alternative Level I teacher plans and implements a program for secondary school students to support students in experiencing greater academic and behavioral success and in meeting exit criteria to make them eligible to return full-time to a regular comprehensive school program; improve student attendance; engage parents in the students' program; improve behavior and social skills and provide differentiated instruction and increase the amount of school work completed.

• Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

• The wage range for this position is a salary between $64,591 and $131,472 based on education and experience.

• Thorough knowledge of MCPS curriculum and Program of Studies and a broad repertoire of effective instructional strategies to facilitate differentiated instruction.
• A belief that all students can succeed.
• Skills in motivating reluctant learners, effective monitoring skills for individual and small groups of students and building school connectedness.
• Skilled in assessment, intervention implementation, data collection and analysis.
• Skills in behavioral management strategies and social skills instruction.
• Ability to effectively engage parents.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors.
• Excellent communication and human relations skills.

Education, Training, Experience

• Master's degree or equivalent with special interest in teaching discouraged learners and at-risk adolescents.
• Three years outstanding teacher experience.

Certificate/License

• Meet Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements in appropriate field of education.
