Summary Description
Under direction, provides a comprehensive developmental program to students in the areas of personal and social development, academic achievement, and career and educational decision making; acts as a consultant in this regard to staff, parents and community.

Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
Job Specific Information
Wage Range: Salary between $66,690 and $135,745 based on education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Thorough knowledge of the role of a counselor and the MCPS Policies and Procedures regarding guidance/counseling.
Thorough knowledge of the Comprehensive Guidance and Counseling Program and the MCPS Program of Studies.
Knowledge of growth and development stages of adolescents.
Ability to read, take notes, and interpret written material.
Ability to work effectively as a team member and independently with staff, students, and parents.
Ability to use a computer for on-line scheduling.
Ability to do counselor/department observations and supervision.
Excellent oral and written communication skills with ability to speak effectively to both large and small groups.
Excellent human relations skills with the ability to establish good relationships with many different types of individuals and groups.
Education, Training, Experience
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in school guidance and counseling.
Three years experience as a counselor.
Certification/License
Maryland state certification requirements for school guidance counselor.
Completion of Observing and Analyzing Teaching 1 (OAT1) by the beginning of the second year of the assignment and Observing and Analyzing Teaching 2 (OAT2) by the end of the second year in assignment.
