This paraeducator position supports a prekindergarten program that delivers comprehensive early-learning services—social skills, emotional well-being, language, literacy, math, and science—through play, planned instruction, and individualized experiences for children ages three to five.
Responsibilities
- Promote school readiness and student well-being under the direction of the principal.
- Provide instructional and classroom-management support to teachers and professional staff.
- Perform clerical tasks in various classroom or learning environments.
- Continue planned instructional activities during the teacher’s temporary absence.
- Accommodate flexible scheduling, location changes, and program adjustments as needed.
Requirements
- Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outside and adapt to flexible scheduling or location changes.
- Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and MCPS policies.
- Ability to assist with instructional programs, monitor student behavior, and support students with special needs.
- Proficiency in Google Workspace, MS Office, and web-based instructional tools.
- Ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).
- Read, write, and speak English fluently.
Qualifications
One of the following:
- Option 1: Associate’s degree (Bachelor’s preferred) with at least nine credit-hours in education-related coursework (e.g., behavior management, instructional strategies). One year of experience working with students in structured educational settings preferred. If no related coursework, two to four years of experience with children/adolescents in structured settings (e.g., daycare, preschool) required.
- Option 2: At least 48 college credits and two years of experience in structured settings (e.g., daycare, preschool, after-school programs).
- Option 3: Two years of experience in structured settings and a qualifying ParaPro Assessment score of 455 or higher.
- Option 4: Any combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating the required knowledge, abilities, and skills.
Pay
Hourly wage range: $26.23–$40.17, based on years of service.
Schedule
- Full-time, 10-month position (working months align with the school year).
- Day shift.
