Summary Description

This paraeducator performs a variety of tasks to support students who are diploma bound. Tasks include facilitating the mastery of grade-level or above curriculum, providing instructional and classroom management supports, and performing related clerical tasks.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.

Special Requirements

  • Frequent overtime or night work required, as needed.
  • Outside duty may be required.
  • Must be able to accommodate flexible scheduling and change of location and/or program, as needed.

Job Specific Information

  • Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Wage Range

The wage range for this position is between $24.38 and $35.02 per hour, based on years of service.

Qualifications

  • New paraeducators are hired at a grade 13 and have the opportunity to promote to a grade 14 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period and required training hours.
  • To be eligible for this paraeducator position, the candidate must already have uploaded to their profile:
    • An unofficial university transcript with 48+ credits OR
    • If your degree or credits were attained from outside the United States, provide an official transcript that has been evaluated through an agency approved by the Maryland State Department of Education OR
    • An unofficial ParaPro Assessment result with a passing score.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies and practices applicable to assignment, and instructional goals and policies of Montgomery County Public Schools.
  • Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program and to participate in monitoring and ensuring appropriate student behavior.
  • Ability to exhibit patient behavior and to work effectively with children, young adults, and staff members.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and to perform all required tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read/write/speak English.
  • Ability to interact with and support students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software such as Google Workspace, MS Office and web-based instructional tools.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to quickly learn and meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Education, Training, And Experience

  • Paraeducators hired into a Title I position must meet the qualifications established by the Every Child Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA).
  • High school diploma required AND one of the following:
    • A degree from an accredited institution of higher education with at least 48 credits OR
    • A passing grade on the ?Para Pro? examination.
