Summary Description

This paraeducator performs a variety of tasks to support students who are diploma bound. They facilitate the mastery of grade-level or above curriculum, work in general education classes, and assist in individualized or small group settings. Responsibilities include instructional and classroom management supports, as well as related clerical tasks.

Physical Demands

  • Frequent bending, walking, and lifting of objects/equipment up to 50 pounds may be required.
  • Outside duty may be required.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to accommodate flexible scheduling and change of location and/or program, as needed.
  • Continues planned instructional activities during teacher's temporary absence from the classroom.

Qualifications

  • Unofficial university transcript with 48+ credits OR
  • If your degree or credits were attained from outside the United States, provide an official transcript evaluated by an agency approved by the Maryland State Department of Education OR
  • Unofficial ParaPro Assessment result with a passing score

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and policies of Montgomery County Public Schools.
  • Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program and monitor student behavior.
  • Ability to exhibit patient behavior and work effectively with children, young adults, and staff members.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform all required tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read/write/speak English.
  • Ability to interact with and support students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software such as Google Workspace, MS Office, and web-based instructional tools.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to quickly learn the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Education, Training, And Experience

  • High school diploma required.
  • One of the following:
  • Associates or higher college degree.
  • At least 48 credits of study at an accredited institution of higher education.
  • A passing grade on the ParaPro examination.
